HISTORY

History

Japan has a fascinating history that spans thousands of years. It is believed that the first settlements date back to the Jomon period (14,000 BC), when hunter-gatherers began to form communities. The Yamato period (250-710 AD) consolidated imperial power and brought cultural influences from China and Korea. Between the 12th and 19th centuries, the country was under the control of shoguns, military leaders who ruled on behalf of the emperor. During the Edo period (1603-1868), Japan experienced a long isolation, but with the Meiji Restoration in 1868, it modernized rapidly. After the devastation of World War II, Japan transformed into a global economic power, notable for its technology and culture.

Japanese cuisine is known for its focus on freshness and aesthetic presentation. Sushi, made with rice and raw fish, is one of the most iconic dishes, while sashimi features only the fish. Ramen, a noodle soup, is popular and varies in regional flavors. Other typical dishes include tempura, fried seafood and vegetables, and okonomiyaki, a type of savory pancake. Rice is a staple food, and miso, used in soups and sauces, is fundamental in the cuisine. Japanese gastronomy is based on respect for ingredients and the seasons.
